Vital Statistics 2024
During 2024, the population decreased by 157 people, from 56,699 to
56,542. The natural increase continues to decline: 684 live births minus
524 deaths resulted in an increase of 160 people, which is slightly
lower than the 183 recorded in 2023.
In 2024, migration levels
have returned to their pre-pandemic level, but with a net out-migration
of 485 people born in Greenland.
The population development for the country as a whole can be fully
explained by changes in the demographic components: births, deaths, and
immigration and emigration, as shown in Table 1.
A correction
item is calculated residually, meaning the number needed for the
equation live births – deaths + immigration – emigration to
match exactly the change in the population size from one year to the
next.
